Stephen Morse,
founder and President of the SJ Morse Company, enthusiastically
embraces his role as sustainable wood resources consultant.
His extensive experience in architectural woodwork and his
knowledge and advocacy of FSC-certified and other sustainable
wood products are important assets for those planning and
executing LEED™ and green building projects.
Morse understands the opportunities as well as the constraints
of FSC-certified wood projects and has contributed to numerous
green building projects. He and his company provided expertise
and veneer panels for the Duke University, Center for Interdisciplinary
Engineering, Medicine & Applied Science in Durham NC.
This project has been recognized with an AWI Award of Excellence;
project highlights will be featured the winter 2005 Design
Solutions Magazine.
For a second year, Stephen Morse has contributed his woodworking
knowledge and his Company’s FSC certified veneer products
to Sarah Susanka’s Not So Big Showhouse®. The showhouse
serves as a learning module for the principles of energy efficiency,
green building and sustainability in residential construction.
Stephen Morse is a member of the US Green Building Council,
Architectural Woodwork Institute’s LEED™ task
force, and a participant in the USGBC "Life Cycle Analysis
into LEED™" project. He participated in the panel
presentation “Troubleshooting and Preventing Problems
When Finishing Wood Veneer” at the International Woodworking
Fair 2004 in Atlanta. He has led “bag lunch” presentations
for architects on topics such as Veneer Specification, Sustainable
Veneers, and Understanding Architectural Woodwork Institute’s
Quality Standards in Veneer Selection.
